Qld licences withdrawn

Andrew S.

Gold Coast
In a recent communication to the office of TBAQ, it was announced by TBA that 2 Queensland Associations have had their licences withdrawn. The Associations concerned are Ipswich and Toowoomba & Darling Downs.

Licenses withdrawn

It is a sad indictment of the sport of tenpin bowling and TBAL in particular that at a centre's request a license will be revoked. At no time was T&DDTBA consulted about the issue of the license until notification was given via email of this decision. I can not comment on the facts with Ipswich as I am not privy to this information.

Are we now entering a period where the bowling proprietors rule the sport and have TBAL do their bidding. I may be wrong but it appears to me that this is the case.

Perhaps they can imform us all over this forum as to the full reasons for the two associations having their license withdrawn. All I can say is that this is a sad day for bowling when it comes to this stage.

At this stage it appears that the Association challenge shall continue unchanged with the T&DDTBA looking after the running of the tournament for this year. It is an incorporated association and will continue to foster and promote the sport of tenpin bowling irrespective of TBAL's decision.

I thank Garden City Lanes for their decision to ban me from the centre for not seeing eye to eye with them. Must be a good business practice that. Don't want to march 100% to our tune then get lost.

Please note this is my own opinion as a bowler.

Scott Lutvey

i think the peace pipe needs to be passed around these places seeing the TBA and all bowling centres are meant to be FOSTERING & PROMOTING the sport of TENPIN BOWLING.

As the new owners of Garden City Lanes my husband Darryl and I would like to have our say about the last weeks events. First of all we are trying to run a Business not ruin a sport. A meeting took place last friday and the T&DDTPBA was made the offer to stay with the center and work along with the other center to further the unity in bowling. After discussions and when they didnt get there own way on running the center they decided to go independant outside.

It was our opinion that the bowlers would be best served from within the
center. So we formed an in center association.(THEY ARE THE MAIN ISSUE HERE AREN'T THEY)

As for Scott Lutvey being asked to leave the center it had nothing to do with association and his role in it . It was because he was abusive and
unreasonable to me.

cindy

are you saying that you tried to unite the bowling community of toowoomba, and the association that controlled garden city previously could not find an ammicable way of doing this?

Craig
Uniting the sport of bowling in Toowoomba is one of our main priorites. We (as new ownership and management) had a meeting with the previous association and spoke to them about our goals to conjoin with the other centre. It is then that they decided to go independant and try to move the Association Challenge to Sunset. If taking a tournament away from one bowling alley to anotheris 'uniting', then is this really amicable considering the two centres were uniting already????
Cindy

hi hales

wasn't there already an association at sunset, if so, how can the one at garden city go there, i applaud you and the family for trying to unite the town, from what i have learned, it has had a sad recent history.

As for association challenge, i cant see what difference it makes to which centre it is in when it comes to untiting them, my concern was that the venue had been set and teams have organised everything around the event being held at garden city.

Cindy

I believe you forgot to mention that I was threatened twice with arrest before you banned me from the centre. On the Friday before you took over the centre when the argument we had took place and then again the Monday after you took over the centre your assistance manager made the same threat. Is it little wonder I was unreasonable. As I said then all you had to do was ask, but you only made demands and threats. It doesn't work that way. All this occurred before the meeting with the association and it wasn't until after the meeting that I was banned. A full week and two days after our disagreement. Makes me wonder. And personally I don't believe I was abusive. I raised my voice and so did you.

Scott

I don't believe what i'm reading. OK, i'll admit to having a few disagreements with proprieters, techs and the like in my time but for someone to resort to this, c'mon. Just more proof that some people are in the wrong industry.

If any one would like to know the facts about the meeting on Friday 14/2 between the owners/managers of Garden City Lanes, and the T&DDTBA that was previously looking after bowlerss within that centre (NOT controlling the centre, as stated in this forum), then they only need to ask our President for a copy of the tape of the meeting.

The whole story can then be told to ALL.

To all concerned,

This is my last word on this subject..
Firstly, Scott you know why you were asked to leave the centre and to why you were threatened with police action. You were removing things from the centre that we and the bowlers believe should have stayed there. Even your own president said to me that you went too far in what you removed.

As for the tape of the meeting, maybe all should be able to hear it, then they would know that only 15 minutes of the meeting was about the future way the bowl was to be run and work with both the association and the other centre. All the rest of the time was spent talking about past events and rumours which even some of the fellow association members said they were sick of hearing about.

As for your licence, TBAL wouldnt have removed it if they didnt have a good reason to do so.

Bottom line is the association wanted to go Independant out side of the centre (in which they did). We then decided to have an in-centre association because we feel you cant service the bowlers properly outside the centre. And after speaking to all league bowlers, about 90% of them agreed with us.

Finally, you as an association went independant outside of the centre. We now have our own in-centre association, Sunset has there own centre association. And so the decisions have been made...

Obviously you never listened to people at any time. If I have illegally removed anything from the centre then take legal laction. You know as you have been informed on numerous occasions that this is not the case. I suggest you refrain from implying that anything I did was illegal.

Scott Lutvey

I see that this topic has gone off on a few tangents, however was just curious as to what prompted TBA to withdraw the licences of Toowoomba & Ipswich. Anyone ?

:?:

:? and just further to nls' query, what are the ramifications of an association having no license - just how does it affect the members of those associations???

more querys

some more querys would be if there Association License have been withdrawn are the still eligible to submit a team for this years association challenge :?:

also if the T&DDTBA won the bid for the association challenge to be held this year, but they dont have a license who should hold the this tournament :?: :?:

i believe that if T&DDTBA no longer have a license it should be changed to the association the was 2nd best bidder (i believe thats how it is decided)
i dont believe that another Toowoomba Association should take the credit of running this tournament when all the hard work wsa done by another association. They should wait to bid for another year.

Anyhow thats my 2 cents worth.

My understanding of this is that centres have chosen to have in centre associations as opposed to the out of centre associations.

BATBA is (in my understanding) an out of centre association, with most centres (if not all) having in centre associations as well, so in reality all could enter teams into Association Challenge (as some chose to do in the Rockhampton Jnr Shield).

Facts from a bowlers point

Gismo: Take some facts on board and listen to yourself.
1. You were removing things from Garden City that belonged to the bowlers or should i say the members of the association, before any decission was made to break away from that centre, so is it not illegal on those grounds. And if not, then some one had made the decission to go alone before the meeting, which means there was a personal agenda in place.
2. the licence was removed from you because the assoc. could not service its members away from any centre, yes that means Sunset also, as they are not willing to work with this assoc.(T&DDTB).
3. All i can see is double standards when you say, and your assoc., that you will endeavour to work in with the association at Sunset for the better of the bowlers, when that is exactly what was offered to you all by the owners and management of Garden City. IT IS ALL PERSONAL.
4. Maybe you can answer these questions! What is now happening to all the equipment and money that was raised or purchased by the bowlers or members from Garden City now that you are away from that centre? Does it not belong to them? Even if it means that it goes back in to that centre for those bowlers, than why was it removed?
As a finacial member of T&DDTBA i would like to be able to benifit from that money and equipment also. But that is not the case since you have not made it available to us in any way.

Graig (Chucky): Yes there was an offer to unite the bowling community of Toowoomba but T&DDTB said no to this offer but are now trying exactly that, only because they felt they couldn't work with the new owners at Garden City. Well thats a waist of effort because they forgot about their members (not the ones on the board).

I have been a finacial member how for several years and not once have T&DDTBA helped me or my league to grow and now it seems even more so that you are unable to help. By the way, yes i have done things to bring new bowlers in to our league with success but only to see numbers still fall away. And now we hear that our money raised for the 2003 Association Challenge is to be used at another centre when i and many others were leed to believe that it belonged to the bowlers and members of your Assoc., and aren't they still at Garden City? May be you can put aside your feeling for that one day and honour your commitment to your members and hold it where you originally won the right to hold it?
Please answer as there are many bowlers asking about their rights to such things.

Steve

Simply contact us.
We have contact with many bowlers still and they are not concerned at this point in time. There is a time and place for everything. We have nothing to hide,AND YOU VOTED WITH THE OTHERS!!

We are not unreasonable people, are you??

Steve, it is time for the benefit of the sport that all this crap stopped, that is why I have been silent, as for some of your comments, check the facts, before shouting, wild statements are not helping our situatio or yours.

Buddha

Buddha i have no problem with speaking with you personally but I'm unable to do that since i had to get the mailing address for my resignation from the centre because i have never been given any contact details to be able to seek any mediation with you. And yes i do know where you work but this is not the place to talk about these issues. And if i don't know how to contact you then the bowlers have less of a chance to do so.
You may have contact with some of the bowlers but are they awhere of the money and eqipment not being available for them at Garden City.
Yes it is time for the benifit of the sport to get on with the job, but are we realy getting on with it if we are not informing the bowlers (all of them) as to what decissions where made on their behalves and without their consent.
These are the facts and they are checked by simply talking to the bowlers, which is what we should have done in the start.

Steve

I am sorry you feel that way mate. I hold no grudges against anyone.

I am very contactable, my number is listed, and failing that a simple phone call to work and I would of been more than happy to speak with you after hours.

We intend on getting on with giving bowlers a tournament worthy of the association challenge format. You and others will see this soon.
