Over the counter award sales. Is it right?

One of our team members bowled a high game at the Nationals and this qualified them for a 100 over and a 250 high game patch.
When we enquired at the tournament room for a claim form they directed us to the souvenir stall and said we could simply buy them over the counter, which we then proceeded to do.

I'm not entirely comfortable with that - to me it seems to cheapen the whole award scheme.
They used to mean something but if people have unlimited access to our awards they all seem rather pointless. Does anyone else agree or is this just another sign of the user pays world?

Hi Andrew.

Doesn't seem to so much of an 'award' as it is more a 'purchase'.

Did they ask you for any details before they sold it to you?

No Peter no questions asked. If you've got the money we've got the patches. All shapes all sizes, you wanna patch? roll up.

Andrew,

Shouldn't be that much of a surprise. For the right price anyone can have a memento of a great game even if they haven't bowled one.

An earlier topic with regards to Ipswich's unsanctioned tournament mentioned that 300 plaques can be obtained even if the event isn't sanctioned. Just another sign that achievements such as high scores are no longer considered special by TBAL.
