Oiling patterns

Just looking at the oil pattern for the SPC - what's "froward oil" and "backwards oil" mean?

Forward oil is the oil put on the lane when the machine is heading down the lane towards the pins....on its way back to the approach it also lays oil, being the reverse oil...

Reverse oil i believe develops the hold area in the pattern; well that’s what I am led to believe...

Sorry guys! I asked the question and then forgot to check back on my own thread until now.

So some oil goes on with the machine going forward and some with the machine in reverse? Does this change how the ball behaves as it crosses the oil? Can I be a complete nØØb and ask what a 'hold area' is?
