Bowlers northcote championships might be going down the drain. ther's talk of them getting moved to august instead of november and cut down to 2 weekends instead of 3, do we want this or not because me myself wants them kept the way they are but what do you's want august or november you tell me

I've voted Stef, but I have you checked with the bowl to see if it's going to be changed or is it something that you've just heard on the grape vine. Perhaps check with Hanto at the bowl and post another thread if there is going to be changes, because people will need to know very soon if it's to be in August. From what I've seen over the past two years, it's a credit to all of the people involved with the Championships at Northcote that they can get it so right with so many events and bolwers involved and I hope it stays in November over the three week period.

Before we get too many theories floating out there, I thought I better clear this issue up.
The dates for the Championships have been changed, and will be conducted over two weekends:
26th & 27th of August and 2nd & 3rd of September. These dates are set in concrete!
Due to the size of the event, and the amount of lanes required, the dates were changed simply to avoid a clash with other planned activities within the centre in the later months.
There will be some minor changes to the structure of events; however we will still be conducting the following events: Opening squad, Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Teams and Masters.
At this point in time, we are in negotiations with several organisations over sponsorship for the event to ensure a good prize payout.
In addition, we plan to sanction the event through the TBA, to assist in raising the creditability of the event and to make sure any high game scores receive there due recognition.

Grant Eadie

Re: Northcote Championships.
Why break something that has worked for 42 years, with all the volunteers that do this in their own time, and do such a fantastic job, over the 3 weekends and at least 6 weeks leading up to them, do you think you can do better, and have just staff run them, I don't think so, you have not got any idea what work is involved, If it were'nt for that lady Iris and those other people this tornament would not run, trying to push all these into 2 weekend ends yeah right, Has'nt the dates been changed because of the mini golf that is being put in, on lanes 1-10, well thats the rumour,
I vote for 3 weekends in november and don't try to fix something that has been going and going strong before you came along. It won't work..............

I totally agree with 2cute4u why would the people that so called run the bowl stuff something that has worked for them for 42 years up......
They actually has some dedicated people willing to volunteer their time and effort to make sure the event runs smooth. People willing to donate their time is a rare thing these days. Just curious to know how they think they are going to pull it off.
Hey Grant61 how do you justify taking out squads and squashing the events into 2 weekends?
How dare you take out major squads such as BRUCE SUTTCLIFFE, KAYE FRANCIS and the RON FRANCIS SCOTCH DOUBLES. These squads are in memory of people that MADE the championships. Without these people the championships wouldnt have ran for so well for all those years. That is just pure DISRESPECT.
For as long as i can remember you have had major sponsorship and donations from patrons associated with northcote. I know damn well that the same people donate their time every year out of the kindness of their heart to ensure this major tournament brings in the bowlers. This tournament bring is bowlers like Ralph Harford, Ian Newey, Rod East, Steve Bell, Jeanette Baker, Wayne Burton ( back to back masters) and alot of other top bowlers, do you honestly think these bowlers will continue to bowl knowing that the people that have ran this event for so many years have been pushed aside so that it can be ran by NORTHCOTE STAFF.
GRANT: Can you guarantee the the money..........And the bowlers?
This event has ran the same time every year for 42 years, what could be more important? Oh yeah MINI GOLF!!!!! How Pathetic.
What Happens to the volunteers now they have been shafted. No one could run it like them. They make this event happen not the BOWL.........

Come on all you bowlers that have bowled in the chapionships over the years tell Grant61 what you think.............................................

Tell us how you really feel :p

I was planning to offer some sort of sponsorship dollars to this event, but due to the changes (ie dropping the memorial squads, thats just plain disrespectful) I dont think ill even bother rocking up this year...

They, as well as the volunteers made the event unique in every way. It was the best thing Northcote actually had going for it, and a real pity that these changes were forced apon the committee.

Just out of curiousity Mr Eadie, what does the Northcote Championships actually have with AMF at all? As far as I was aware, the whole event was ran independantly of the centre, and all they did was take the profits from the game rates. Who actually made the decision to steal the Championships away from the bowlers, and let it be ran by AMF staff?

Awaiting your reply.

Andrew

first things first, and i'm not defending grant at all but, nowhere is his post does he mention scrapping the volunteers... just like to know where this has come from??? and before you all jump down my throat I'm a volunteer myself. (not for northcote)

Secondly, I think it is total BS moving the dates and shortening this event, people ask why bowling is doing so bad... its because of decisions like this!!!!!

It is a sure thing that Northcote Championships have been changed to the dates being the 26-27 of august and the 2-3 of september.

Me myself have been a volunteer for the last couple of years myself and a bowler in the champiopnships aswell i dont know how many of you's know me by my nickname shorts but my real name is Stefan Bartlett and have been involved with the championships in every way possible just like alot of other people.
Myself wont be there this year because of plans i have had for over 6months and i'm sure that alot of other people out there are in the same boat

Now from what i have heard is that entry forms are going to be out in the next few weeks and from there on in things are final if we like them or not so to me if the bowlers dont show up this year because of the changes there will be no longer northcote championships and its not a good thing to since it has gone so strong for so many years and was getting so much stronger with records gettings broken all the time with the scores that were getting bowled and just the number of bowlers in its self.

But all this might just be gone from here on in.

Regards Stefan Bartlett

Hi All
For anyone interested, entry forms for the championships will be available from the 3rd of July.

In answer to you Tonx, yes the Championships were independantly ran and that is a FACT. The only thing the bowl had to do with it was the linage and what a hell of alot of linage they got, other wise the bowl had nothing to do with it, you can ask all the Managers and Assistant over the years like: Tony Goodwin,Glenda Rumble,Rod East,Ian Gallagher,Andrew Jorgenson, Cassie and of course Frank Van Der Kraan, I'm sure they will agree that the bowl did not run the Championships, they only kept those 3 weekends free for them.
It's nice to know that you Mr tonx think that those people were unique, and appreciate what they have done.
And to you Mr Nighteyes about the volunteers well if it is'nt true why can't Mr Eadie comment on this, you know why! Because it is true and luv that is a FACT,
The only comment Northcote can make is the forms are available on the 3rd of July,
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GOOD COMMENT NORTHCOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that's about all you would expect from them.................................

Hey 2cute4u
The only comment Mr Eadie will make is that "its what MACQUARIE wants."
I hope the whole think falls through then lets see whose laughing.
I wonder who they are trying to scam this time with sponsorships? I cant wait to see how it turns out.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey nvmeeeee
you seem to know alot about this issue, do you have friends at Northcote, I see your from Laverton, Do you bowl out that way?
I have bowled in these championships and this is very upsetting to know all this

hey 2cute4u
Yeah i have a few friends at northcote who have been treated like crap ( to put it polite).
What a joke it is to see people dumped when someone new comes along and thinks he can do a better job. Lets just see.
I have a good mind to speak to people higher. From what ive heard the whole bowl is suffering no you know who is there.

After reading all the threads posted and from what I've been given by word of mouth from several people, it appears that the reasoning for the rescheduling of the Championships is that November has become a VERY busy month for tournaments with the Dunn Sheild, the Warrnambool Cup and the over 45s on 19/11/06 at Altona. It appears that tight scheduling is making it extremely hard for all bowlers to get to Northcote and bowl during November. August on the other hand is relatively free of tournament commitments and this appears to be the reason that August has been nominated. I would expect that all of the people who have been involved with the Championships over the past 40 plus years will only want what's best for the tournament and that is to ensure that it remains the best localised Championships within the Melbourne metroplitan area for many years to come. I hope that everyone gets behind the tournament and it receives more entries than ever before. I don't know how the squads can be squashed into the new time frame, but I'm sure that the organisers who have done a great job over the years will find a way to ensure it goes smoothly as usual and lets get on with doing what we like doing best and that's bowling. Good luck to all for the 2006 Championships.

Hey Rev
Thats just it the people that have been organising it are being pushed aside

And also why should championships be moved when its been the same date for the past 40 years

I know, but we really need to get behind that tournament and the people who have made it a success to ensure it keeps on being the best there is.

rev
you say lets do what's best for the Championships that is so right what is best not what is worse, and the organisers over the years do it this year I don't think so, they have all been shafted yes shafted, so do you think they will be as good as before, and do you think the bowlers like to hear that their tournament has been wreck for selfish reasons and it aint due to tournaments trust me.....................................

I only hope that everyone gets behind the tournament and it retains the dignity that has kept it going for so long. I won't be posting anymore after this Thread but I hope it all turns out OK.

I do not intend to get into a war of words over this in this forum, but I will make this one post on the matter!
Firstly, cute4u and nvmeee...aka kelly and Justine.
You both seem to have strong opinions and information on the northcote championships..yet you do not bowl league in the centre, nor according to information given to me, bowl the championships...please correct me, if this is incorrect!
Perhaps you would like to tell everyone what league and centre you both actually bowl in!
Before passing comment on the ability of the staff to run an event, perhaps alittle research should be done to find out the history of those staff!
As for the top bowlers, I guess time will tell, but I will be sure to ask Steve when I see him and JB when I am next having a drink with her and KCR.
Tonx, as a past bowler in the centre, I will reply to you...the naming of tournaments after people like Bruce Suttcliffe and Kaye and Ron Francis will still remain.
You asked what does it have to do with AMF..well its simple, when letters and offers are given to potential sponsors which involves using the AMF name and the centre..then it invloves us!
As for the volunteers, there has been no formal tournament committee formed to run the event as yet. I am sure the yet to be appointed TD may wish to enlist the services of some past volunteers provided they can work within the guidelines.
John..as a committee member of the MTBA, you know how hard it is to schedule events. Unfortunately sometime changes have to happen. In this case, the event had to condensed down to two full weekends and bought forward.
I am a little surprised you think decisions like this is what is making bowling bad. The centre has worked hard to try and promote not only tournament bowling but the MTBA..that's why every bowler in our centre is sanctioned through MTBA..how many other centres can the MTBA say have blanket sanctioning through them.
