Nothing wrong with not sliding, works for me fine :^)
You will need to tell us what dexter model they are, as the SST 5's have changeable soles, and you should never have a problem sliding with the soles they have
The SST 6's are similar, just larger around the front of the shoe
The box says style # B869-8 Dennis. The sole is a cloth that appears to need to be smoothed down in order for it to slide. I have spoken to local bowlers that said they struggled for a whole season with sticking. I can't afford a long breakin period, plus, I'm afraid I'll twist a knee, or worse. Thanks for your help.
If the sole is a cloth one the easiest way I have found to make it easier to slide is this:
rub in Easi slide or one of the other types of sliding products (and I mean use a fair bit)using a circular motion. After doing this stroke your hand down the sole from the front to the back a few times until it feels smooth. You may have to do this a couple of times but it has always worked for me. If you dont have Easi slide talc powder will do the same job. DONT FORGET to TEST your shoe and slide on the approach BEFORE you bowl.
talc powder is not really good for shoes and i believe is actually illegal, it may work in the short term but when you change lanes or the humidity rises it becomes sticky for the other bowlers on the lanes.
yeah its my understanding of the laws that you cannot actually put anything on the approach to make it slippery for you .. by putting talc on your shoes you leave powder on the approach making it too slippery for some .. I have seen bowlers go ass over because of this.
If they are dexters and they have interchangable soles and you still still cant slide you have troubles. The dexters come with a wide variety of slide soles. If its a standard sole get a wire brush and brush from the front back or the back front - that normally helps with slide .. to stop slide brush from side to side.. thats a basic thing i do to help me.
When i was a kid this lady told me to put cigarette ash on the soles. It worked for me i though this lady was been smokin some good **** but nar a few others told me it works.
If you had read my post it said "rub in" there is no residue left on the sole so therefore there is no problem with leaving any on the approach. If this is done at home then you have no problems. Also as for the rules about introducing foreign substances to the approach, how do you explain the bowling centre that told us to buy some easi slide because we were having trouble with the approaches?
Everyone keeps going on about changing soles, does this style of shoe come with changeable soles? Probably not as he would have said so.
Ah yes a common problem, I have actually suffered it myself, all was solved by taking the shoes, ( 2 ), out of the box before you bowl with them, the slide increased ten fold and the dexter box looks lovely on top of the telly.
