Mongoose

Hi All,

Just wondering what everyone thinks of using a Mongoose wrist guard.

I've heard it does help to increase lift and promote hook.

Would appreciate good and bad feedback please!

Thanks,

It won't make any difference to the amount of lift. What it will do is prevent your wrist from breaking. (By breaking I mean bending backwards.) This is one of the prime causes for a back-up delivery.
Because your wrist cannot bend back your release changes, resulting in a semi-roller delivery rather than a full roller.
There is nothing wrong with a full roller delivery as long as it is a very strong full roller.
However most coaches today favour the semi-roller.
The Mongoose will take a little getting used to, although half a dozen practise games should take care of it.
The only other problem is that it becomes somewhat addictive. Most Mongoose owners go into an immediate panic if they lose it.

I have vague memories of the Mongoose. Is it anything like the Cobra? I used one of them for years. Andrew is 100% correct, but it not only becomes addictive, your wrist will come to rely on the device. I believe it will weaken your wrist. That was my experience when I finally tossed the Cobra.

Amanda Bradley never bowls without one, she has bowled over 10, 300 games, 1st in the World Cup and a 3rd place finish, so I would say it has'nt done her any harm.

This is a Mongoose (well one of the types available) - most are pretty similar as far as I know.
