Latrobe Valley Youth Cup

Morwell Tenpins

Hi all, Joe here from Morwell Tenpins, there have been a few rumours flying around that we we will be short oiling for the up coming Latrobe Valley Youth Cup. Sorry not true. As everyone knows this tournament is a ranked tournament and therefore we need to abide by TBAL rules & regulations with regards to oiling patterns.
You will all be pleased to know that we are putting down a pattern that is 33'in length and buffed to 42 feet. At the moment we have aprox 54 units of oil down the centre tapering off to 15 units to the gutters. As you can see that does not sound like we are short oiling.
We at Morwell still use a Lane washer which makes our back ends squeakky clean and that is why some bowlers believe that we short oil. Anyway it is pleasing to see a few interstate entries this year and like all tournaments we can only get better as the years go on. Just remember that if it wasn't for centre like Morwell or Werribee or Ed Fleming the youth bowlers in Victoria would have no tournament to bowl in except Adult tournaments. So instead of knocking everone all the time how about thanking the centres concerned for putting on these tournament because as some of you bowlers may not be aware there is a lot of work behind the scenes to actually get a tournament up and running and for any tourney to be successful you need sponsors and the centres willing to put in aswell as having the bowlers support your event.

In finishing I would be pleased to hear from anyone on how we can make this tournament bigger and better. It is not very often that a Regional area like Latrobe valley can host a National ranked event. This gives our local youth and juniors a chance to pit themselves against some of the best bowlers in the country and hopefully want to go in other events which can only benefit youth & junior bowling in the long term.
See you all at Morwell Tenpins on the Australia Day Long weekend.
For those not coming good luck in SA.

ill tell you how to get more interstate entries...........

its simple.........

Dont hold it at the same time as a SUPER 6 !!!!!

If it wasnt on the asme time as SA cup i would be there with my entry fee!

belmo

Yes belmo you are right but what you dont understand is that these days there are not too many weekends available. Plus our tournament also caters for the Juniors who we are all trying to cultivate into future tournament bowlers.
Remember this all our youth today will be our Adult bowlers tomorrow and not everyone has that natural ability to win Adult let alone youth tournament like you do. Thats why all these youth tournaments that are starting to spring up around the country are great for bowling in General.
The real winners will be Tenpin Bowling in years to come. In the perfect world we would have a tournament every weekend and 150-200 bowlers competing. But I keep waking up and realising the average bowler can not afford to go to every interstate tournament. Not unless you are one of the lucky dozen who seem to regular win our tournament.
The one thing I like about you Belmo is that you say what you think, too bad not more of our bowlers would step up and discuss their views.
Good luck in SA

Belmo something else I forgot. Last year we had a lot of females not bowl in the youth cup mainly because they felt that they had no chance against you Male bowlers even thou they got 10 pins bonus per game. This year we have made seperate division and guess what only 1 interstate female has entered. Which is Christine Day. The rest are all from Victoria. Yet I do not see too many bowling the SA cup so where are they????????? Every year we hear the females cry that they dont get as much money as the guys yet the support does not seem to be there either. So what is the answer guys.!!!
As you know we have guaranteed 1st prize this year of $1500.00 for the guys $1000.00 for the females & $500.00 for the graded.
There are not too many tournament around that can guarantee 1st prize money for all 3 divisions regardless of entries.
I would love to hear from all you females how to make the tourney better and provide bigger payouts just like the guys.

If Morwell Tenpins were to guarantee $1500.00 for the Female division 2005 Latrobe Valley Youth Cup would we attract your interstate entry!!!

Being a female youth bowler, I would have loved to bowl this tournament - unfortunately for me, I had to take a weeks holiday to bowl in Bankstown, and working 6 days a week, i dont think my manager would be too impressed if i asked him for the weekend off - especially how busy we are this time of the year. The other reason is coming up with the money to bowl straight after christmas and straight after youth at Bankstown
Not sure what the excuses are of the other females but these are mine - it is great to see that you are giving the females a go out there, as i said I would have loved to bowl this even. I just hope the lack of interest for this tournament doesnt ruin it for the rest

thanks your reply Froggy....yes I can understand the fact that you have to work and money will always be a problem for some of us to go interstate. I was at Bankstown and I know what it cost me for the week and I did not bowl just there to watch a couple of bowlers and help Tasmania.

Joe,

I think the reason that you arent getting a lot of youth girl entries is because of Morwells location.. the airport is nearly 3 hours away. Most girls come down and have somewhere to stay, ie a friends place etc.

This goes for the guys.. they have to pay $200+ for airfare.. accomadation when they are in morwell, but they also have to pay to get to Morwell from the airport...

I support this tournement 100%, but for interstate bowlers, I can see why they arent bowling it.

Latrobe Valley Youth Cup 2004

Yes but to get to most bowling centres you have to travel.
Last year I had a bus arranged to pick anyone up at the Airport drive them to Morwell and then drive them back to Airport on the monday for $20.00. Guess what I had no takers.
Also the trip from Airport to Morwell is 2 hours and it is all highway these days.
It takes me 10-11 hours to get to Sydney and 6 hours to Canberra
From Morwell.
And this year a lot of my local bowlers are putting up a few bowlers for the weekend. So there are ways to save some cash and still bowl.

Just in case you think I am a bit bias. We just had a youth tennis tournament in Traralgon and we get players from Interstate and overseas coming to this event every year. And I can tell you they don't play for as much as bowlers do and they stay for 8-10 days.
But they accept that if they want to hit the big time then they have to follow the circuit to improve.

Perhaps an answer for future years is to organise a shuttle service from the airport, or at least someone to pick people up. I know some tournaments up here (QLD Ladies Classic etc) where Mary Flower organises to pick people up from the Airport as it saves another expense from the weekend away.

Just a thought.

Hi Joe,

I would be bowling this weekend. But..... As I was unable to go home to Adelaide for Christmas because of work I am going up this weekend with Cam to watch him bowl SA Cup and to see my family.

I know it's hard to find weekends for tournaments but I have to agree with Belmo, if you could make it a weekend away from a Super Six it would be better as there are a few youth bowlers that do bowl the Super Six Events.

I'm not sure why the girls aren't going in it this year. Last year was good, even tho there wasn't many girls. You have gone out your way this year to help us girls out and give us our own division, which I think is great.

Jason Jason Jason Griggs...... What do you mean you aren't bowling casue of your birthday.... that's slack. I was in the same boat with SPC last year but i bowled!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUDDY!!

Hopefully I will be able to bowl again next year.

Good Luck to everyone this weekend!!

Especially my Lil Bro and Sar.......

Thanks Lisa I understand what everyone is saying but why dont you guys come up with a weekend. Pick any weekend and lets see what we can come up with.
The point I think everyone is forgetting is that there are only a handful of youths going to SA and thats great but where are all the others who a couple of years ago were screaming......give us youth bowlers our own tournaments....... Well this year you have 8 tourney's 3 in Victoria 1 in SA and 4 in NSW............
Have a good weekend with your family and make sure that cameron keeps his strength up its about time he won a major....

Hey all, i'd just like to say i cant wait to see you all and cant wait to bowl with ya's.
I've bowled all week on the new conditions and they are alot different to what everyone thinks. So lets just bowl ey....
Anyway guys i will talk to ya's soon (2moro) luv ya's

Debra xoxox

oh and when i say alot different to what everyone thinks i mean they arent dry.

Hey I thought the scores were being updated live this weekend. Second squad should have been playing the past hour and no scores yet. Technical hitch maybe? Anyone have any news?
