Is Jason Belmonte the best bowler ever produced by Australia?

Bowling Tragic
Having seen this guy dominate tournamemts like no one's done before, I'd have to say YES!
HE IS THE BEST EVER!

There are going pro and cons on this,

On present conditions yes i have to agree, but you can not say he is the best ever as go back 20yrs and who knows as different conditions and different balls, go forward and who knows again.

right now pretty much the world is at his feet

even if you went back 20 years with different balls and different conditions, belmo has a natural shot that would probably put him at an advantage back then too. Power players were starting to open up the lanes in the late 70's, back when you had to work for revs, so given his ability to adapt to the conditions coupled with his shot making and mental game, he would still have a pretty major impact back then too imho.

Internationally, in amateur events, the answer is yes. Professionally, both Carol Gianotti and Cara Honeychurch are far and away our best ever players. Domestically, Ian Bradford is still the most dominant bowler this country has ever produced in the mens tournaments and Jeanette Baker is still the most prolific in female tournaments.

Having said all that, Jason could surpass all those named above if he choses to do so in those other arenas. If he choses to do so. If not then there are those players named above who, to this point in my opinion, have superior records to him

come back and discuss the same topic in another 10 years. Belmo has been bowling for quite some time and has established a name in aus, but as the past 3-4 years show with venturing out into more international competition, there is a whole lot more coming in future years. I reckon he's just hitting his straps.

I've always thought that Cara was the best ever, including any man you care to name.
Until Belmo....

has anyone dominated at home, and particularly overseas like belmo has and is. not as far as i know, but my knowledge pre 90s is very limited.

i would have to say that he is the best ever .... and any who dont believe that to be the case, may change their minds by the time he is finished!

If Jason was to stop bowling tomorrow - then I would have to no. Yes he might eclipse all those that Brenton mention - but he has yet to do that.

Only time will tell the true picture. Holy crap - he is one damn good bowler.

To this present day, domestically and internationally, Jason Belmonte is the best the country is seeing right now. I'm sick of hearing about who would be better with different equipment and different conditions, etc. Bradford was great in his career, but what Jason has done in his short career and what he will do in the future will blitz what every Australian Bowler has done in their career, this country has produced. Belmo is the best bowler Australia will ever produce. End of Story.

Big call....."will ever produce"

You may well be right. But if someone better comes along, I sure hope I live long enough to see him/her.

Hmmmm, writing stuff like that could really inspire people to somehow prove that statement wrong.........

That in itself can't be a bad thing... Belmo would have to be one of the best bowlers that i have seen bowl.

I guess you could contrast this to golf in an obscure way. In my opinion what Greg Norman did for golf, Jason Belmonte is doing for bowling. If you look at how the current batch of golfers are going on the overseas tours... it really looks promising for our sport.

This is not to detract in any way what other bowlers have done prior to Belmo... i.e Carol Gianotti, Cara Honeychurch, etc

my 2 cents,
Mick

easy question

"YES"

but i would love to see him turn pro, and put some perspective on where the top line players stand against the best in the world.

we mightn't be as far off the mark as we think, i think the girls proved that
