Could any body tell me about the Illawarra Strikezone, Where is it,
how many lanes, who owns it, what type of machines/lanes, who runs it. Is it the Nationals Venue? :?:

Ill Szone

Simon,

Frawls owns it, Brand new Centre, 24 Brunswick Machines/lanes, 2004 Nationals Venue next year (Hopefully adults too!), Kegel Lane Tecnology, Illawarra 1hr15mins from syd airport near Wollongong.

Basically everything a Bowlers could want! Can't wait to go their.

Gus

If you go to the TBA website into the "Whats New" link on the left side of the page at the bottom, there is a topic in there from Frawls, giving a bit of a run-down of what the bowl is all about.

Not too mention a pool room with 12 tables, a upstairs viewing area where u can see the Pindeck on EVERY lane from one spot. A Resturant/Cafe with a greta menu(i should know i wokr there)
Nationals will be Good in my backyard next year for everyone, i can garuntee it!!

Later Da Cowman!

Great for the Nationals to be back in NSW again but I would have thought it fairer to go to Tassie or SA as it hasn't been there in a while but I guess no centre applied for it. Too bad for those states to have to travel so far again.

scoreggia -
SA had Nationals in 99. Alot more recently than the last time Tas did (91)! As far as I am aware, Nationals will never return down here as we don't have two centres in the near vicinity of each other, so are not able to provide a main centre and a back up centre.

Sorry my mistake then. I read the following on the TBA site. I thought Moonah had 24 lanes.
TBA says : The Board of Tenpin Bowling Australia invites bowling centres with at least 24 lanes to lodge bids to host Junior Nationals, Adult Nationals and Youth Team Challenge during 2004.

Like I said, I was only saying the situation as far as I was aware of it. Thanks for correcting me...
Well maybe one day when Moonah is upgraded a bit... :)

Last time we had Nationals Events held in Hobart were:

*President Shield and Junior Nationals in 1990.
*Walter Rachuig Tournament and Adult Nationals in 1991.

In both those years we had a back-up centre (as required in those days) at Mornington, 13kms away from Moonah on the Eastern Shore.
Mornington Tenpin closed on 30 August 1992, and since then Moonah has unfortunately fallen away to become an absolute rabble.

From what I understand, it is no longer applicable to have a back-up centre as in previous years, provided the host centre has 24-lanes.

It is certainly true that Moonah could hold another Nationals some time down the track - and would be an excellent venue - however it would need (as Kace said) a massive refurbishment to be able to stage such an event.
In it's current state, it would probably take 6-months to complete the tournament - And that's not a joke.

If the current mail that I keep hearing is correct about ATBSO being staged here in 2004/05 then that would be a litmus test if you like to see how things are going here.
I understand that ATBSO have wanted to hold an event down here for quite some time now but, in a facility like this (in it's current form) it is not practical.

It certainly would be great for the sport down here, as it would be great for our young people also to be able to see a Nationals live in the Town, as so many of us who have been around long enough to have experienced these events know how great they are.

Just my 2c worth

howdy

My Manager at AMF Cross Road in Adelaide was interested to hold 2004 Jnr Nats.

After speaking to her about it today, i found out that she had ditched the plan as apparently TBA were looking for $15,000 down to hold the tournament

now it comes down to the centres who can afford it, most of which are on the Eastern side of Aust

Plus, we had June Voukolus in Adelaide at a forum earlier this year, and she said that the grant that is given by the government can only be claimed if the nationals are held where it is cheapest for most of the sporting populus, which like most sports is Vic, NSW and QLD.

its a shame, but unless a centre can get huge sponsorship, then its gonna remain in NSW and QLD

C ya

So who is the sponsor that laid down the $15000- at Illawarra, assuming that's one of the requirements to host the Nationals.

Well im guessing that it would either be Storm or Frawls...seeing as it is his centre.

Just wanted to let you all know that there are more people than just Frawls who had a hand in creating Illawarra Strikezone.

Illawarra Strikezone is co-owned by Andrews Parents, Barbara and Leo, Andrew and Myself.

Regards
Sue
