Almost everyone answers 5,000 on their first go, I couldn't believe I got it wrong the first time I saw it. I don't really know why everyone gets 5,000.

maybe its a trick that when you eyes see it, you don't see the correct answer
a sort of an illusion of some sort

because everyone adds the smaller numbers together. It makes 100, but because their are 4 1000, your brain automatically assumes that the small numbers add up to 1000, not 100.
