Has anyone got suggestions on getting bowling gear to the nationals knowing that the airlines have changed their "sporting goods" rules will make the cost of flying it up prohibitive:confused:

Just came home on Tiger from Mackay and had no problem with 5 balls. However l am likely to drive to Nationals.

frieght ur gear mate i jus came back from mackay also but on the way up got slugged 120 excess soo would have saved myself a fair bit if i sent it up.

Just came back from Mackay also on Tiger...the sporting goods allowance makes them quite a good option. They offer 1 bag of sporting goods upto 30kg for $30 each way, so i used one of the Ebonite four ball travel zip up canvas bags which weighed approx 29.5kg...then i upsized my baggage allowance for $10 each way..which allowed me 15kg of checked in luggage..that was my 2 ball tote bag....so for $40 each way i got 6 balls to and from Mackay. You get 7kg carry on so clothes went in that bag.
Hope this helps.

Virgin still allow 28kg of luggage with $8 kilo excess, four balls in 2 totes weigh 30kg so most I have paid is $16 excess. You have to ring up to get the extra 5kg on top of the normal 23kg allowance.

Another option is to use www.e-go.com.au, one of the cheaper freight options and anyone can set up an account. It would have cost me $60ish each way to send 4 balls to mackay pick up door to door or 50% less if depot to depot.

I usually fly with virgin and pay the extra $8 when booking to get 28 kg total .I use 14ib so 2 totes weighs a bit less than 28kg and then take shoes in carry on bag.
