BRISBANE (June 21, 2017) – Bowlers from all around Australia, and an international contingent of eight young American players will congregate at Strathpine Hyperbowl on the weekend of 22-23 July to compete in one of the country’s fastest growing tournaments for bowlers up to 18 years of age – the Queensland Junior Cup (QJC).

When two of the proposed three squads filled very quickly, QJC organisers expanded the capacity for registrations to 36 players per squad, and there are now just a handful of spots up for grabs before the FULL HOUSE sign is posted for this year’s tournament.

Staged for the third consecutive year, the QJC offers a wide range of exciting prizes for tournament participants, with equal prize-money for the top four bowlers in both the male and female divisions. Graded bowlers will be rewarded with an increased prize pool this year and the male and female champions will again receive a thrilling bonus of return flights for two to Singapore, courtesy of award-winning SCOOT Airlines.

“The 2017 Queensland Junior Cup is part of Tenpin Bowling Australia’s national ranking system for Junior bowlers and the involvement of a group of young players from the United States adds another dimension to this year’s event,” said CEO of Tenpin Bowling Association of Queensland, Gail Torrens. “The QJC is also an integral part of TBAQ’s highly successful Talent ID Series, the pathway to further international competition for our emerging talent in Queensland,” she added.

Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Division 8 Councillor, Mick Gillam, said Council looked forward to welcoming the QJC to Strathpine. “This tournament is gearing up to be one action-packed weekend of bowling…the Moreton Bay Region is one of Australia’s fastest growing urban areas and we pride ourselves on our strong sporting culture and active lifestyle,” Cr Gillam said.

“The Strathpine Hyperbowl is extremely easy to access for participants and spectators by car or public transport - it’s situated within Strathpine Shopping Centre, just a short walk from Strathpine train station. “Why not also make the most of the weekend and enjoy all that the Moreton Bay region has to offer - from the bayside to the hinterland,” he continued.
