Discount Bowling Supplies

Just to let everyone know that very shortly i will have a range of new balls, bags etc at hopefully the cheapest prices in Australia.
Personally i think that balls are over priced in most pro shops around the country i will be working on a very LOW profit margin to give everyone the best price. I will keep u all informed

Hi

I am just wanting to know a couple of things:

1. My pro shop gives me free drilling if i buy a ball off him, or he charges about $80 if i bring a ball to him. Can you sell me a ball that is not only $80 cheaper than him, but also on top of that, the freight charges to the mainland?

2. If you want to undercut proshops, fine, but if people like you sell bags, balls and shoes cheap that great, my proshop sells up cause he cant compete with you, then where do i go for coaching, tips, finger grips even??

3. Does the ATO know about this???

Roy.

Roy sounds like a pro shop owner to me....
LOL
Although I don't like people selling bowling equipment at a huge discount over the internet, it IS legal.
In the overall scheme of things competition is good for the sport.

On the other hand, I don't think totalbowling is the place to advertise. Graham has probably already posted you a bill for advertising.

well this is interesting, Roy first of all t my business is reg with the ATO!!!, secondly no one has to buy my products if they do thats great but if they dont that is there choice too. Also inserts @ slugs are included in my price with drilling available soon. Question if you buy my products you will be unable to purchase from your pro shop or ask for coaching?. I think that your pro shop is on the right track (charge for drilling) because i think what proshops should do is charge less for balls and charge for drilling because if the person who drills your balls and does a great job why not pay them for it??

only trying to provide a more affordable service.

also im interested to as why he is unable to compete. Most prohops would run on a high profit margin, nothing wrong with competition its a great benefit to bowlers the sport already costs enough with out spending big dollars on equipment each year.

My opinion is that some pro shops have to realise the internet is here and anyone can buy balls over the net sometime cheaper and even purchase balls not brought into this country. ITS A MATTER OF CHOICE!! But as for them charging more or in Roys case $80 to drill a ball it should not matter where the ball comes from they should have one standard fee for drilling.
Maybe then they might get some more business
for drilling balls rather than people saying he's a good ball driller but im not paying $60 - $80 to get my ball drilled cause i didn't buy it of him?
Also as we all know if someone goes somewhere else that is normally where the go until the get disgruntled again.

REMEMBER This is only my opinion.

B Boy just curious,
What do you do for warranty claims? And bowlers dont forget most Pro Shops will certainly match any back yard ball runners prices.
And as for profit margin - there is hardly any, I make a big total of about $50.00 per ball. Thats big money considering the time it takes to drill them. Why not start supporting your local centres especially if your going to get a better price.
{I will definatley beat anyones price.}

Thats great Milton, if you will match any price that is great news for bowlers. As for supporting my local proshop i dont think so.Thanks to Hayden George the proshop is very competitive now with him looking after the bowlers as much as amf will let him. But amf do have some huge mark up on there equipment, so if i can make the proshops be more competitive then i have done what i intended to do LOWER PRICES. So if you can get a better price thats great but if not please get in contact with me.

Cheers Mark Foster.

As for warranty claims if the goods are found to be faulty due to manufacturing and fall with in the warranty guidelines the goods will be sent back to the company to be repaired or be replaced or refunded as would be the same as your prohop!. So someone who doesnt run a proshop from a bowl is a backyard bob???? build a bridge and get it over it!!

I dont think Jeff from Milton was necessarily tagging all out of pro-shop equipment sellers with the same brush (I wouldn't call Brando a backyard bob). However, Jeff is more than competitive on prices and service than most pro shops. I believe he is just trying to point out that
most in centre pro-shops (that want to look after bowlers) struggle to make ends meet as much as everyone else does.
In the end, the bowler still has to make the choice and they will decide who they buy their equipment from (sometimes no matter the cost) and who they dont.

take care

I agree with your ideas Mark on cheaper equipment prices for bowlers however like Jeff said its going to come at a cost to all the other bowlers in that centre becasue in the end they will be charged more to make up the difference.

I have a little 12 lane bowl and I run my own pro shop. Now I dont mind telling everyone I only mark up my equipment 30 - 40% but with that comes ball drilling and a free game to try that ball out and as much help on the lanes as I can give and after sales service like resurfacing and new inserts, everything a bowler deserves but since more and more people are shoping around now for equipment our sales have droped and in most cases its only because of $20 or $30 dollars difference but a lost sale non the less. Add all that up and it could start costing staff jobs over the course of a year.

I'm a firm beleiver in supporting your local bowl because with out them there's no point having the cheapest equipment and no where to use it. The other side of this is all of us that have our own bowls support the Australian distributors, who we also buy our parts and cleaning chemicals from and its because we support them they support us that keeps cost down - where would we be without that support? I dunno would you like to pay more for a game - I dont think so.

So I guess Mark you must have some pricing problems down in Tassie how about looking after those nearby and let the rest of us on the mainland look after our customers without having to get in to rediculous price wars.

Cause in the end its only gunna hurt someone.
Regards
Scotty

Just a friendly reminder for everyone who uses this forum :

when you signed up for this forum you agreed to : (among other things)

You agree not to post any form of advertising within this forum without prior written authority from either graham@totalbowling.com.au or dave@ozbowl.com .

I dont mind centres or bowlers advertising tournaments, but I don't want people advertising things like bowling balls for sale without my prior consent. I am working on some prices for proper advertising on TotalBowling. If you are interested in this please email me graham@totalbowling.com.au

I understand the point you have made scott, but this is business, competetion, consumer needs. I will use this example Qantas,Ansett,Virgin. Now Virgin didnt put Ansett out of business Ansett put Ansett out of business, through bad managemnt. Now i dont want people to go out of business because of this. But we are all out there to grab the important dollar, and if business's fall over well thats part of being in business, and it wont stop competition. You dont go into a business thinking geez i hope i dont hurt bob around the corner, you go into business saying im gonna give 120% and hope that it is sucessful and you do what it takes to be the best. Competition is gonna be here longer than us,and its part of life.

cheers Mark Foster

Mark I have no problem with competition your right it makes your business stronger, however I'm sure you would agree all of us that have bowling centres have a lot higher over heads than yours therefore you can charge less for your products, but like I said we are also looking at the rest of the picture in supporting the Australian Distributor not just for equipment but our spare parts etc.

Mate I wish you well in your business I really dont think you will effect me over here but I have no doubt you could effect others in the industy and for us to stay strong we have to stick together.

Just looking at the big picture!

Mark....Great to see someone in this state actually doing something like this, onya!

For a long time, AMF has made a lot of money out of bowlers at our centers, and just like Hayden up there, I know how hard it is...trying to sell equipment for a company who charges top $$$, for a competitive price..Makes it very difficult

Hopefully, this will make them sit up and notice at our centers, because as far as I'm concerned, they need a rocket fired up somewhere!!

Hope everything works out

Just back Andrew up, Yes it was hard to start with but now it is easy. Sell it at a competitive price and you will sell the eqp. Just 5 weeks ago I sold 10 Reaction Rolls in 2 weeks. How you might ask? Easy. I didn't sell them at $500+. Also good luck to Mark, he is a very good friend of mine but competition is always a good thing! LOL
