I have voted yes, not sure that it is the league that is important in itself but the more you play the more consistant you are likely to get.

Mind you, that could be consistantly bad :)

Simple as Practice makes Perfect.
I was on a 180 avg about 4 months ago and since then have been bowling in two of Sunshines best leagues being the Western Subs and Two Up. And also listen to my dad and practice on sundays with my fellow bowling mates. Since then i am now shooting a 194 and a 199 avg in these leagues but have been shooting 650 series and am still doing my best while i wait for my avg to catch up with me. I am currently the highest avg female in West Subs and plan to defend my title from last season.
Cheers

In my opinion you should bowl as many leagues as you can and can afford. You can practice as much as you like but rhythm is important to any sports persons game and can only come while bowling in competition. Rhythm = consistency

Especially if on different lanes (different centre) or on different conditions. I bowl one league late a night on dry lanes and the other on fresh oil. Bowling on different conditions or different lanes and learning to adjust to keep on knocking those little white pins over certainly helps with consistency.

When I bowled at Keon Park, i was averaging around 180-5 in 2 leagues and 190-5 in superleague when i stopped bowling. I'm not sure if it was the league itself or the amount i was bowling, but i think that Superleague improved my bowling for 2 reasons. Bowling head to head made me be consistent to be competitive against higher calibre bowlers and it also made me control my nerve in those close games.

Now I'm back into bowling after a 5 yr layoff, I only bowl one league a week at Highpoint, I'm averaging around the 180 mark but still feel that I'm struggling for consistency. I reckon my inconsistency is costing me about 10-15 pins.

Bowling in leagues doesn't help your game that much, Cause you can't try different things in league without hurting your average. I bowl one league a week and i average around the 210 mark. I practice every now and then when i need to work on my game... i use to bowl in 3 leagues a long time ago and i don't really think it help my game.. bowling against better bowlers can work cause you want to compete against them so you try harder. :D

Strange poll, practice makes perfect.

Everyone should bowl a variety of conditions and your consistency will improve. I am nagging here but Sports Series events will improve both your mental and phyiscal aspect of your game, plus they are enjoyable with atmosphere even if you throw a 140 beacuse everyone does.

I voted no.

I bowl in 2.5 leagues and my consistency is all over the shop :S

Only in that centre though!

My results in one particular squad last weekend pay tribute to that fact!

In the prior squad, I found it difficult to strike, but did not miss any spares so it was a respectable series. The next squad was completely different though. For some reason, my game fell to pieces (I still really don't know what happened)

I really did not know where to look... my sparing game just fell to pieces and good shots left gaping splits. :surrender:

On my house shot I would have easily had about 150 extra in my series. Needless to say, I was way under average!

As they say, that's bowling... 250+ one game - struggling for 150 the next!

Sorry for the rant lol

I would say yes it does improve consistency on house shots.

I have found league doesnt necessarily help my consistancy, just regular bowling. I used to play two leagues but then started playing one league and one weekend practice and found i was just as consistant. I only play one league now and am not as consistant as before when i had some practice.

Practice will improve your game...just be aware that some of the "house shots" being laid may not give you a true indication of what your real average may be.Try to practice in different centers along with stepping out of your comfort zone and bowling in Sports Series etc. Also practice throwing different lines EG Play20 board if you play 5 board all the time etc.
Changing it up will keep you both mentally and physically sharp for the next time you strike a condition out of the ordinary.

Depends on where you bowl.

I currently bowl one league in a pretty easy centre and my average is around the 220 mark. I also bowl in a really difficult centre and my average is just over 200.

Bowling in the difficult centre (where I have a one-board target) makes my game better at the easy centre (where I have a 4-5 board target). It's all about accuracy as far as I'm concerned.

Sure, I could bowl in 2 leagues in the easy centre, and average 220 in both leagues, but what is that doing for my game? As soon as I come up against a more difficult pattern, I will struggle, because I'm not used to having to be so accurate.

Practicing in different conditions makes you more consistent. Rtahre than bowl extra leagues practice more and bowl events. This gives you the balance to become a better player. I have ever only bowled one league but bowled a lot of events.
Sports events do the job, like a monthly league they give you the practice you need to improve and if you do ok you make some money as well.

G'Day,

For me extra leagues would be no better than practicing, in fact probably worse as you cannot focus on a single area of your game in a league. Like ten pin spares.

As a kid watching Terry, Lovey and dad, these guys would hit their spot a lot. For Dad he bowled Friday night singles and 3 games extra in practice if a tournament was coming up.

I think some people can hit their spot a lot and others can't no matter how much they play. Me, sometimes I can hit the side of the barn and others I can't. The main benefit with practice for me is my spare shooting gets better. My strike rate is the same. But hey, I am just a League Hack.

I Voted NO

Reason for that is simple

Practicing the same mistakes only makes you better at making them

Consistency comes from being coached to do things better then practice
and you will improve

Just my experience and view

Cheers

I voted yes,but i see Geoffs point,if you are meerly practicing and repeating your mistakes then you are defeating the purpose, get some coaching from someone knowledgeable if you want to improve, sometimes the littlest things can have a huge impact
