Champco Cup - Sunshine

GeorgeF

Hypercell = Hyperhook!
This was scheduled to be run on the 25th and 26th of March as tournament no.2 of the Victorian series. Is it safe to say that it is not on and the rest of the series is cancelled?

Who's looking after the tournaments now?

George I believe Patrick Birtig was going to be looking after this, but I am not sure if a decision has been made whether to run the tournament or not.

I would suggest that contacting Patrick at Bowlers World will give you the answers you are looking for.

Hi George,

Pat is looking at running the event. A few changes from the 1st event. A reduction in entry fee, and reduction in Prizemoney.

Pat is looking at an event that will be like the AO format, due to it being held at Sunshine, a couple of weeks prior to teh AO.

Hopefully deatails will be released soon. A lot dpends on the New Regional Manager.

Pat will be more than happy to advise via e-mail.

Hi George and everyone else, as mentioned I have put together another format, reduced entry fee smaller prizemoney etc, but I have still to have it approved by my regional manager, I am running out of time!!!
The last tournament even though it got nearly the right amount of bowlers, was totally un-economical for any centre to run again, we should all realise that we shouldn't expect bowling centres to lose money on tournaments, and if you do the sums on the Bowlers World Cup with 57 entries paying down to 19th place, you will understand what I am saying is correct.
The answer is of course sponsors that put in a huge amount of money, but where would we have got a sponsor to put in $2500.00 cash into each tournament, to make it worthwhile for the centres to run these events.
As mentioned during the last tournament, we needed a new format which everyone will benefit from, and enjoy competing on a regular basis in not only Victoria but also the rest of the states. A format which allows the prizefund to be bigger or smaller depending on the amount of support it recieves, that way it is self funding and a no lose situation for any centre to run.
I have been involved with tournaments now for over 25 years either as a competitor or tournament director, so I understand how much these events cost to run. Years ago we did have trips, good prize funds, incentives for anyone competing at the highest level, but we also had good entries and support in all the events, we did have TV for some of them, and you need to understand that AMF was involved with of most of those TV events, the SPC, Coca Cola Classic etc, as was Goldpin in Qld.
While I am mainly involved with the proshops, I am in this business for the bowlers as I certainly wasn't in it for the money. And getting it right for the bowlers irrespective of what company I work for, is what it's all about.
So don't give up on us just yet, we are trying to make it right, we need to change the way we have done things in the past, because that no longer works now. This is why we try different formats to get something that you are happy with, and whether it's Tony Goodwin or Glenn Rowland, Mary Flower in Qld or me or anyone else, it's not what WE are happy with, because at the end of the day, it's all about YOU, because without you nothing happens.
Watch this space in the next couple of days and I will hopefully have something official for you.
Regards,
Patrick Birtig

Thanks for the update Pat.

Are you also able to give us an update on the Hobart Cup in the next few days, so that the bowlers wishing to support the event in Tassie, will be able to start to looking into arranging flights at great prices.

Hope all goes ahead, and looking forward to the details.

As l have said in private, and in posts, happy to help where possibe.

Regards

Lance
