Bowling on the TV

Just watching the darts on Fox Sports 2 and noticed that there is coverage of bowling coming up at 1AM EST (2AM in Hobart) if you happen to be up at this late hour.
Not sure if there is any more further coverage in the coming weeks, somebody out there might have a programme guide.
Not sure what tournament it is either, I'll wait and see when it comes on.

Its probably that crappy (my own opinion) "World Masters" tourny on a single lane in England that Tim Mack and Frawls bowl in occasionally. The one where that stupid guy keeps saying "in there like swimwear!!"

Let us know if you watch it Tiger?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing actually.
The shopping centre in Milton Keynes commentated by Ashby Jay and someother plonker.
Yeah I'll watch it and let you know dude.

Thats the one

World Tenpin Masters is the tournies name and it down to the final 8 with the last 2 matches on 2nite to determine the top 4.

Phil Scammel Vs. Gery Verbruggen

Liza Del Rosario Vs. Thomoas Leanderson

2 great matches with 4 very good bowlers in them.

btw

Nick Holding is the guy who says 'in there like swimwear'. Good line at first but is OLD wen it gets used more than once :p :p :p :p

Thomas Leanderson is the only guy out of that four that i'd want to watch!! Not that any of the other three aren't good bowlers (i'm dead sure they are all 10 times better than me!!), but for pure watchability they fall a bit short when you have to stay up till 2am to watch!!!!!

And Matt, i totally agree with what you said about Nick Holdings "swimwear" line. . . . the first time its mildly amusing, but after that, its just plain annoying!!!!!!!!!!

:D

2004 Brunswick World TenPin Masters.
From Dagenham, London.

Match 1
Gery Verbruggen (Belgium) 203-238 (441)
Phillip Scammell (England) 188-211 (399)

Verbruggen was pretty smooth and consistant right the way through the match, whilst Scammell was "fishing" a little to find a decent line, but was constantly snakebitten leaving about eight or nine solid 10-pins in the two games.

Match 2
Tomas Leandersson (Sweden) 227-243 (470)
Liza Del Rosario (Phillipines) 257-172 (429)

Interesting match and was very tight for much of it. Del Rosario had Leandersson on the ropes for much of the first match but the Swede was able to hang in there for much of it to stay within thirty after the first game. In the second game Leandersson was all business and really put it on Del Rosario who performed quite well until an unfortunate accident late in the game when the match was tightly balanced. Shooting a 10-pin accross lane, Del Rosario stuck on the synthetic approach and fell over the line and fouled (and was more than a little fortunate not to roll or sprain her ankle). After a delay Leandersson's concentration was broken and his string of strikes was ended with an errant shot and an open frame.
Leandersson and Del Rosario were even late in the match trading strikes, but Del Rosario faltered and Leandersson was able to wrestle back control of the game and run away to hard fought win.

Mentioned the "In there like swimwear" line only twice tonight - must be some sort of record.
Had an American commentator, Bill Hoffman I think, who kept referring to Tomas Leandersson as "Toe Marse" for the entire match :x

Hi Tiger,

Just a quick question, I thought that only ESPN are the only ones to cover bowling??? Not Fox Sports 2!!
Thinking about getting Optus, but perhaps Fox is the way to go for bowling.
Any replies appreciated.
See ya Bowling Hobbit

ESPN showed the PWBA and possibly the PBA. In England the Brunswick World Cup is shown on Sky Sports, who i think has a partnership with Fox here in Oz. All i know is that Fox also showed some of the 2003 AMF World Cup in Honduras

Last year, ESPN showed every PWBA tournament until the last one in september I think. Since the PWBA is on a break for a while, there has only been a collegiate bowling tournament and a few bits and pieces. As for PBA, I dont think its ever been on, and I've had ESPN on my Foxtel since it was introduced in 2002.

If you wish to see some bowling then Foxtel is the way to go. But be prepared to either set your video recorder (Yes still have one for this specific purpose) or stay up to ungodly hours. Sometimes it isn't shown to 4 in the morning.

Will possibly see AMF World Cup, Tenpin Masters and also USA VS Europe team challenge. Occassionally may see some college bowling. Keep an eye on both Fox sports channels and ESPN guides.

to make it easier than searching thru a foxtel guide, go to their website www.foxtel.tv then go to tv guide, then type in bowling, then select "the month ahead" and the search finds anything to do with bowling coming up within the next month.

I have Foxtel and you get World Masters, USA vs Europe, AMF World Cup (although last years telecast was dead boring) and when the women's tour is going some PWBA as well.

Apparently the reason we don't see any PBA tournaments is that the ESPN channel broadcast in Australia is actually much closer to, if not exactly the same as, the american ESPN2 and that channel doesn't carry the PBA only PWBA.

Despite all that i think seeing any bowling on TV is better than none. Even if we have to put up with hearing "in there like swimwear." after every flush pocket shot.

At least that guy isn't as annoying as the tool that commentates the 9 ball tournaments they show on Fox Sports. He's scottish or something and every sentence rises steadily in tone and volume from start to finish meaning that you can't understand a word he says.
