has anyone seen the EA Sports Cricket 2004 ad on tele - the one with bowling in it ?

Looks like it was made at one of the new bowling bars - perhaps in Melbourne (looks like Strike) - anyone know for certain ?

Don't know the location........but it is the same old story. I can see the ad firms ad planning meeting.......

"We need a comedy angle for our new Cricket 2004 game. What do you think"

"We can make fun of bowling, no one takes THAT seriously, do they and those that do, well who gives a s**t about them anyway"

"Fine, all done then, any more thoughts?"

"Nup, lets do it!"

You get my drift...................... Again bowlers are being portrayed as morons.

Some things never change.........

The new bowling ad was filmed at the new bowling bar, Strike in Melbourne, the ad uses bowlers from Moorabbin who bowl in leauge on a Monday night.

Oh well, at least bowling got some publicity.... Its like a few years ago, in the US when they did an add for the NFL and set it as a PWBA style tournament, and they had a woman take her shot and just as she was about to throw the ball, the other bowler spear tackled her... "SOME PEOPLE JUST TAKE THEIR FOOTBALL TOO SERIOUSLY" was the catchphrase.

I guess coz bowling isnt well publicised, its just east to take the piss out of it.

:bad-word:

Bad hair day Brenton?

No not a bad hair day, but proprietors I have spoken to are very annoyed and have noted an increase in overarm bowling in their centres and destroyed 6 lb house balls. Again I just feel we are being treated like morons as per usual................

Can't say I've had overarm bowling at Noarlunga... however I've heard its popular at Cross Road, along with bowling at the monitors, and at the big screen...

But I have thrown away 3 8lb balls and a 10lb ball in the past few weeks.. all with large cracks through them. It's charming when they cause under-lanes.

What tha?

Sounds to me if idiot open play bowlers want to play "cricket" on the lanes, then it's time Proprietors decided to play "cricket" with them.
If the open players like to over-arm bowl, then the propietor can bring in the trusty Grey Nicholls.......and use the said bowler's head as the "red cherry"

Much more fun than "pin the tail on the social bowler" 8)

Andrew S, how did you get the swearing red man up there?
I want one :D

HOWZAT!!!!!!!!! Cant say that ive seen anyone throw a ball over arm yet.... But most social bowlers do throw the ball as high up as they can get it... or without touching the lane at all

i thought it was an NHL campaign "If bowling was hockey...." and they did it with golf and snooker as well

ps. if anyone has those ads, i want them.

yeah it was for the NHL.. i think i've got that ad somewhere on here.. it is a classic one :D

Howdy
As a worker at Cross Road, yes the monitor on Lane 2 took a hit, but it works although very fuzzy

To go with the Cricket in bowling centres, you have the sport of target practice, as in a group i had come in set up bins on the lanes, (on a really busy nite) and tried to bowl through them. At xtremely fast seeds, a bit hard to do so there was bin everywhere.

Until people really see the tournament bowlers side of bowling, then nothing will change. It is hard to recruit for leagues because no one wants to bowl seriously, it is seem as a leisure event, and those that do decide to join rarely turn up

Speaking of bowling on TV, for the past couple of weeks, FOX sports has been telecasting the World Masters from England taped earlier this year, in April. 16 of the worlds best bowlers, including Australia's Andrew Frawley. For those who dont have it, www.matchroomsport.com has the info and results, and the women in the tournie really give it to the guys (Nikky Harvey, Shalin Zulkifli and Kirsten Penny)

Ciao and Merry Xmas
Brad

Hehe if you would like a spolier on who wins then go to matchroomsport.com.... Other wise wait till then end of jan to see who won.

To really increase the "credibility" of bowling as a sport, it needs to be shown in an everyday environment, as it was when Coca Cola bowling was shown on Saturday afternoons.

Then, when people really see the professionalism shown, will they take it more seriously.

Brad I agree about the recruiting... these days it's fine recruiting for a 'Fun Club' but is near impossible when you call it a 'Ball League'

Good luck with it anyhow when Cross Road reopens.

Saw the ad for the first time yesterday during the cricket. Found it rather funny. Haven't seen or heard of anyone doing it in our centre yet... but maybe thats because when your served by Frawls, you might think twice about pis... annoying him...

It's not good publicity, its not bad publicity, but we do need more professional T.V. time. How we do this is the next big step.

Later Da Cowman!

They do have the AMF ads on tv, and sometimes over here in WA they have ads for Superbowl Warwick and Melville. But they show no professionalism at all. The only other add is the one with Frawls encouraging people to join amf bowling 2004 or something

Oh well must watch the cricket to see the ad...
