Troy Murphy – Kirwan Qld
Troy Murphy doesn’t believe his cerebral palsy and epilepsy are barriers to a successful sporting career. Rather, he values the challenges they pose and relishes competing alongside able-bodied athletes. Troy started tenpin bowling some 13 years ago and his participation at state and national levels of competition has led him to meeting some amazing people and accomplishing unimagined victories. While he admits to still getting nervous before competitions, it doesn’t take long before the atmosphere of the game takes hold and he continues to add more trophies to his amazing tally. At this year’s Victorian State Disabled Championships, Troy won four gold, two silver and three bronze medals. He repeated his success at the National Championships in Canberra where he set a new National record and added another gold and 2 silver medals to his cupboard. Then at the Queensland Championships, Troy smashed all the records with a medal haul of 6 gold and 1 bronze medal. Troy was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for his outstanding sporting achievements. He hopes that his achievements and will to succeed will show there are no limits imposed by physical disability.
