Announcement - 2009 Women’s World Championships

Tenpin Bowling Australia is pleased to announce that Oz Tenpin Altona will be the host centre for the 2009 Women’s World Championships.

There were competitive bids submitted for the event and Altona was the strongest in all areas. I congratulate Lorraine Sampson and Robert Zikman for the work they have put into the bid document and wish the centre all the best for the event.

Maybe the time has come with such a prestigious event for women being held in Oz (congrats. to all concerned with bid), that a concerted effort be put into sending our women bowlers overseas to gain more experience - local (as in Aust. tourns.) do help but surely the intense competition against other nations must improve the standard of our ladies. We do have the talent here but lack of opportunity must affect the performances at an International level.

The Oz men in Macau are showing the benefit of this type of competition on both long/short oil - surely it would have been possible to send a team of women as well. 2009 will showcase our own bowlers and I feel certain that there will be supporters from all over Australia willing 'our' girls on but all of 'us' supporters would love to see them have a great preparation for this event. BRING IT ON !!
