Day 1 of qualifying in A squad saw Brian Pilkington sitting 1st on a 219.6 average, following close behind was Jason Walsh on a 217.5 and rounding out the top 3 from A squad saw Mick Little with a 210.3 average. With the only female in the field Kate Wilton sitting in 5th spot.
B squad came out for the turn and it was Mac Stewart from Vic that was trying to run down Pilko, behind Mac was Mathew Wormald from NSW.
Joel Lovegrove from Vic rounded out the top 32; he finished 1 pin in front of Rob Chinner from SA.
Day 2 saw the lefties find form, moving thru the field all on a mission to make the top 10 match play.
Heading into match play Jason Walsh was leading with Bruno from NT in second and Mac Stewart in third. Round out the top 10 was Mathew Wormald from NSW.
Match play was under way and the bowlers knew they were fighting for a top 3 finish to make it to the step ladder final where anything could happen, and happen it did.
After matchplay Jason Walsh finished 1st and had to wait for 2nd place Andrew McArthur to play 3rd place Brenton Davy.
It was the best of two games total, Andrew came out strong with a 246 in the first game to Brenton’s 213, in the second game Andrew was too strong rolling a 199 to Brenton’s 193. Andrew won with a 445 to Brenton’s 406.
Now it came to 2nd playing 1st, would if be the solid lefty from NT or would it be the hammer head from NSW.
Andrew was continuing his fine form from his previous 2 matches, and stated with a 255, Jason started slow and all he could manage was a 184, the second game saw Jason trying to make up a lot of ground on Andrew, Jason came out with a 206 and Andrew 171, it wasn’t enough for Jason to take the title. Andrew finished with 426 to Jason’s 390.
Andrew McArthur was now the 2008 SA Cup Champion.
