TBAQ’s 2017 Talent ID Pathway has led to the arrival today of eight young aspiring Queensland bowlers in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur to compete in the 18th Milo International Junior All-Stars Championship.
The team was selected following participation and performance reviews at more than a dozen events held at various bowling centres in North, Central and South Queensland and represents an even number of boys and girls – seven Juniors, and one Youth bowler– selected from a pool of some of the State’s most skilled young athletes.
Accompanied by Coach Gail Torrens and Manager Colin Linton, the squad of eight bowlers, comprises:-
Alannah Woodfield - the youngest member of the team and member of the champion NQ President’s Shield team in 2016 and 2017, 16 year-old left hander from the Cairns suburb of Mt Sheridan, with a 180 average.
Three 17 year-olds - Kyle Annetts, a two-handed bowler, our current Australian Junior Masters Champion and QJC Champion from Little Mountain on the Sunshine Coast with a 199 average, Christopher Wentworth, another two-handed bowler with three perfect games to his credit from Molendinar on the Gold Coast with a 201 average, and Ivy Dickinson, All-Star 2017 Junior Nationals and member of the champion NQ President’s Shield team in 2016 and 2017 from Edmonton, Cairns with a 181 average.
Three 18 year-olds - Kayla Moyes, member of the winning combined SEQ team at the 2017 Junior Nationals from Arundel on the Gold Coast, with a 185 average, Lachlan McDonald, 2017 State Team member from Bald Hills in Brisbane, with a 182 average and Chantelle Becker-Mills, All-Star team at NQ Adult Intercity and member of the champion NQ President’s Shield team in 2017 from White Rock, Cairns, with a 177 average.
19 year-old Sam Otago, 2015-2016 Australian Junior Masters and Classic Cup finalist from Loganlea on the Gold Coast, with a 196 average, completes the list of selected players.

“We’re just settling in after arriving in KL a few hours ago and the whole squad is keen to go over to the Bowl in the Sunway complex for their first glimpse of this impressive 48-lane Centre. “With almost 700 competitors from more than a dozen countries expected to compete in this popular tournament this year, it will be an invaluable experience for them to participate in an event of this size,” TBAQ CEO Gail Torrens explained.
“We’re delighted that fellow Queenslanders Jayden Leming and Blayne Fletcher – last year’s Youth Boys Open Champion – have also returned to compete in the All-Stars Championship alongside the Talent ID squad this year.
“It’s a credit to the TBAQ Board of Management which continues to back the Talent ID program by offering incentives to Junior and Youth bowlers who support Sport pathways,” she added.
