2009 Membership Fees

good luck with the membership drive, money for nothing

Lets just wait and see what sort of benefits package is announced.

At least we have a costing we can go back to the membership with, and although it should have been announced a couple of months ago it is much earlier than the previous administration could manage.

I actually think the 'elite' status will incorporate bowlers wanting to perform Representative duties at a National and International level. What is interesting is that there is a group of elite bowlers who do not participate in Representative teams anymore and who require a basic membership but participate in National tournaments on a regular basis, where do they fit in?

I would envisage for their premium membership fee they will receive access to coaching, education and developement. I would be interested to see a more detailed plan on how this will work.

It all comes down to value for money, is paying the premium going to help aspiring bowlers go further for just 'compensate' TBA for having the ELITE status printed on their membership cards?

We'll see

I agree with George we expect the TBA to do so much and yet we pay them next to nothing to do it. I myself am happy to pay $50 to help developt the sport.

I also agree it is time we paid a joining fee like other sports. This will help tenpin to be considered a 'proper' sport by outsiders & new players. The fees are not excessive. I imagine that people who bowl in tournaments outside their home centre would need to pay the 'elite' fees? I guess we will be advised.

Why bother with several different registration fees, initially we should have one fee for all bowlers regardless if they are an elite bowler or not.
The main concern for TBA is to get ALL LEAGUE Bowlers back into the fold regardless of age or averages. Then and only then should we talk about Elite memberships. We need to recruit 50,000 league bowlers as TBA members to allow our sport to fund itself and not have to worry about Gov funding.

Obviously the question in most bowlers mind will be same as several years ago........"WHAT DO WE GET FOR OUR REGISTRATION FEES"........
Until that question is answered TBA will always have trouble in getting ALL our League bowlers back into the fold.

I certaintly agree that we should have a set registration fee and we need to support our National Body. But TBA needs to listen to our average bowlers who would make up approx 90% of membership Nationally.

I agree
IMO the elite bowler status would possibly create an US and Them mentality

Its bad enough now that some bowlers and center staff will only talk to some Bowlers over a certain average.

IS it just me or is the document on the TBA website written in a foreign language
Or do you have to be an elite bowler to understand it

Some of the biggest mistakes in our sport in recent years have been caused by the TBA trying to cater to the ASC for the purpose of retaining government funding.

If anyone seriously thinks that bowling will get a guernsey in the Olympics in our life time, or if ever, then I'm afraid you are living in a different reality. Yes I'd like to see it get in but I live in the real world where sports that have already been in it for a number of years are being cut from it. They also say they want to dramatically cull the number of competitors at the games as well.

Thus why are we letting the ASC destroy so many successful initiatives in our beloved sport. The Walter Daveer Teams event and the North / South Teams divisions for Queensland in Rachuig and Daveer were canned because of funding provisions.

Now we have the farce of token competitions at the Nationals for the majority of the countries bowlers instead of competitions like Daveer that all could represent their state in. Now the Rachuig is still championed as the be all and end all in its same format. Now don't get me wrong the Rachuig is the ultimate event for us elite bowlers and I'm looking forward to Canberra in 2 weeks. However only a handful of bowlers are trying out each year in each state so something is definately wrong with the way the event is currently looked at by bowlers. So how long can it survive like this without it becoming a farce as well if states suddenly can't field teams.

Queensland being such a big state we again have people penalised because of geographical location to represent their state. I thought the ASC was supposed to encourage not discourage participation in sport.

The fact is the ASC way of thinking for sport does not fit in to Ten Pin Bowling for a number of reasons. Their is no aging up through the ranks structure as in most other sports and bowlers cannot practice the actual sport outside of commercial premises as most other sportsmen can.

For years local associations have succesfully provided services to bowlers but with the suggested fee structure that will be no more. Bowlers are going to baulk at the new league santion fee if they now see they will get absolutely nothing for it as their is no way local associations like the MTBA, CTBAM etc. could continue to porvide the support to the sport as they do now. I also would baulk at the elite fee structure as I too would want to know what I'm getting for it in return.
