Congratulations to Brandon Qualischefski the winner of Kruger Reality Suncity Open for 2004. Qualifying scores were very high this year top 15 men bowlers averaging 202 or better to make the cut. George Frilingos was top qualifier going into match play with a 229 ave closely followed by Gary Norman 225 ave and Ricky Brunnell 222. The first 300 for the tournament was bowled on Saturday in qualifying in the 7th game by George Frilingos not to be out done later in the day by another lefty Graham Allen from Rocky who rolled his first 300 congratulations well done.
Top 5 ladies also contested the final with Ann-Maree Putney from NSW leading the challenge on a 197 ave followed by Lisa Que 187.5 and Kate Murry 186.5.
Match play was a new day with Stephen Hunt leading a hotly contested field by bowling the first 300 of the day by a right hander in the tournament in the 6th game of match play to have a handy lead on the field, Brandon Qualischefski in game 10 threw the front 11 to be left with a cold 10 pin bad luck Brando , in the last game of match play a 4th 300 for the tounament was bowled by an Oldie but a Goldie and one of the true gentleman of the sport congratulations to Gary Bernardin.
With only a few pins difference leading into the last game it was Brando who prevailed winning with a impressive 225 ave winning by 35 pins from local Stephen Hunt on 220 ave and 3rd place going to John Dunn from Mackay. Top place in the women was Anne-Maree Putney with a 217 ave who placed 4th overall in the tourament to further illustrate why she is one of the top female bowlers in Australia.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the tournament it was great to see some of the countries leading bowlers travel to the north as it provided a top class exhibition of bowling much to the enjoyment of local bowlers and spectators.
