"competing" is just that, bowling in a competition.
That's league, Sports Series, Travel comps, Accredited events, and majors.
Then it's up to the league executives / tournament director to enforce that rule if they want to.
Squad selection can be important depending on where/when the tournament is held.
A 9am squad in the middle of winter will play differently to a 2pm squad so you need to work out which one you will get more benefit from.

Become friends with your local manager/head tech. Get permission to put little cones or something on the lane at the arrows and use them for drills. I used to use those suction cup sticks from kids guns, spaced 4 boards either side of my target board gives enough room for +-1 board margin of error.
There are some great posts in this thread and it's been interesting to follow. To sum it all up in relation to the opening question, everyone seems to agree it's cheaper to buy your ball (not talking about finished drilled price, just the ball + Shipping) direct from the US. The question then...
Personally I think being able to purchase online adds another valuable resource to the Australian bowler. I think local pro shops should accept this and work with it.
But having said that, my message to pro-shops out there is this:
Increase your drilling prices. The $50 quoted by many people...
